Nadia Ryder
Born and raised in South East London, Nadia started out wanting to be a painter, covering her family home with oil paints. She was, and still is, inspired by artists such as Egon Schiele, Millais, Rossetti & Jenny Saville.
Nadia bought her first Canon camera from Ebay at the age of 13 and carried it around everywhere, annoying the hell out of her friends and family constantly taking pictures. She has always loved the idea of being able to freeze moments in time. Her personal work still reflects this, finding something haunting about shooting spaces that have been occupied by people, but no longer are. Nadia is drawn to warm tones, like the colours of a sunrise or sunset and finds comfort in these.
Nadia says: “Women have this incredible ability to be soft yet hard, vulnerable yet strong. It’s a beautiful dichotomy that makes photographing women such a joy, as a sex we’re so multifaceted. My mum was and still is a single working Mum and owns her own business. She’s a massive inspiration to me and is probably the reason why I respect women so much."
