Aitken Jolly

Photographer / Director

Aitken Jolly was born and raised in central London and enjoyed an eclectic upbringing. From an early age, he was surrounded by a visually diverse world that embraced frequent visits to the city’s museums and art galleries. At home he would enjoy his father’s collection of iconic art and photography books in which Jean-Paul Goude’s Jungle Fever and Helmut Newton’s White Women had particular impact, along with Zoom Magazine and other influences.

He was also influenced by study of the photojournalism of the Vietnam war that he saw in lectures attended as a child when his mother was studying for her degree. His father’s career and friends brought him many experiences in film studios and the creative industries, and before his teens, Aitken already had developed a love of photography. As a young teenager, he would bunk off school every Friday to work in a local camera shop, and soon realised that photography was his passion.

Aitken went on to study photography at university, but left when he decided to take the practical approach by becoming an assistant to a series of great talents. Out on his own, Aitken soon developed his own style of individual beauty. Today, Aitken is one of the leading creative image-makers working out of london. His individual style has lead him to collaborate with a wide range of advertising clients, editorial publications and the renowned talents of Katie Grand and Charlotte Stockdale. Aitken has produced editorial for multiple worldwide Vogue titles and other leading publications, and has created a series of well-received films, amongst them a series for Love Magazine’s notorious advent calendars.
